SEPLITE® Ion Exchange Resins
Ion exchange is a powerful chemical technology, through a reversible chemical reaction, where dissolved ions are removed from solution and replaced with other ions of the same or similar electrical charge. Ion exchange resin facilitates ion exchange reactions. The resin itself is composed of organic polymers that forms a network of hydrocarbons, and ion exchange sites, called"functional group" throughout the matrix. The ion exchange sites attract ions of an opposing charge, which give the ion exchange resin its separation capabilities.

Ion exchange resins are classified into cation exchange resins and anion exchange resins, as well as mixed bed ion exchange resinsThe cation exchange resin can be exchanged with a cation, and the anion exchange resin can be exchanged with an anion. The mixed bed ion exchange resin is a physical mixture of a positive resin and an anion resin, and at the same time removes anions and cations in the water.
